Las Vegas (April 20, 2016) – The 2nd annual Fight 4 Fitness 5K Race, 2K Walk, KIDS FUN RUN, & Community Day continued to serve as a motivating and impactful event that helps to build the foundation for an improved quality of life when it was held last weekend in Las Vegas. The festivities were kicked off at the famed Mayweather Boxing Club on Saturday, April 16 and ended at Sunset Park on Sunday, April 17. An array of amazing sponsors such as: Mayweather Promotions, The Money Team, TAKAT Jewels, SHOWTIME, and MGM Grand took part in making this event a success!
The eventful Fight 4 Fitness weekend started off with the Urban Fitness League athletes showing off some of their calisthenics exercises in a competition that consisted of: number of reps by weight class, free-style and best trick. The event was judged by Mayweather Promotions star Andrew “The Beast” Tabiti, Rayaz Takak (of TAKAT Fine Jewels), and a young special guest judge selected by the UFL athletes. There was also a question and answer session with attendees conducted by the UFL to promote the importance of establishing fitness goals for a healthier lifestyle.
The 5K Race, 2K Walk & KIDS FUN RUN followed Saturday’s event, and saw participation from members of the community of all ages.
“It was a great run and it was a great turn out, stated Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions and Vice President of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation.” It’s always great giving back to the community here in Las Vegas for the kids, and we’re truly blessed to give back.”
Community Day immediately followed the race and walk, which included amazing activities that prompted the kids to get-up-and-go and be active! The Community Day included lunch, raffles, obstacle courses, face painting, a dunk tank, meet & greets and photos with The Money Team fighters and trainers who shared their training and inspiring tips in the boxing ring!
“This event is something that takes a lot of diligent planning and we’re thankful for everyone that believes in and supports the message and the movement toward a healthy lifestyle,” says Nicole Craig, President of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation and Vice President of Marketing and Operations for Mayweather Promotions. We took note that the kid’s most memorable moment was dunking their favorite fighter in the dunk tank. There’s no age limit on being fit and having fun! We’re looking forward to putting this event on for many years to come.”
Philanthropist and comedian Ricky Smith was the emcee of the event from the kick-off of the race to the end of Community Day, hosting the crowd with his humorous persona. Ricky shares a common goal to giving back to the community; he is the founder of R.A.K.E (Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere). “I’m a big fan of Floyd, and I’m a big fan of the organization. We did something before with my non-profit organization R.A.K.E so it just made a good fit for me and my team to take part in giving back to this event,” says Ricky.
The proceeds will be donated to Clark County School District. The funds will be divided among designated CCSD schools that have demonstrated need for support in the following areas: athletic programs, physical education, and educational field trips.
