THE FLOYD MAYWEATHER JR. FOUNDATION AND MAYWEATHER PROMOTIONS 5TH ANNUAL “BACK TO SCHOOL GIVEAWAY” CHARITY EVENT REACHES NEW HEIGHTS WITH OVER 700 IN ATTENDANCE!
LAS VEGAS (Aug. 7, 2017) – For the 5th year in a row, The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation’s Back-2-School Giveaway opened its doors to hundreds of families in the Las Vegas community this past Saturday, August 5th, making this the biggest event to date with over 700 families in attendance! The giveaway was held at West Flamingo Park and presented by The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation and Mayweather Promotions joined by The Mayweather Promotions’ fighters. Families were entertained all day from with entertainment, giveaways, and each child left with a backpack filed with school supplies.
The event was emceed and DJ’d by Hot 97.5 FM DJ Miles who opened the event and entertained the crowd all day. The backpack giveaway area was staffed fighters who included: Badou Jack, Andrew Tabiti, Ishe Smith, Kevin Newman, Charvis Holifield, Ashley Theophane, and Lionell Thompson giving away backpacks to each of the kids throughout the day. The event was also accompanied by activities such as: face painting, physical activities courtesy of The YMCA of Southern Nevada, and science experiments by Discovery Children’s Museum. Food was provided by Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza, Snowie Iced Shave, Papa John’s Pizza, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, and Sauced Food Truck.
Students presenting a local library card & in grades 5-12 were given a chance to win a brand-new laptop & printer. A total of six participants walked away perfectly suited to start the school year off on the right track with a laptop, printer, and memory card!
The successful outcome of our annual giveaway is a testament to the influence our organization has in the community, said Nicole Craig, President of The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation. Education is one of the key areas that The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation focuses on, and we look to come back next year with new goals for greater reach!
